Ministry in Schools - 5181

Field Education

Rationale of the Course Requirements
  • Theology students are given an experience of ministry within the setting of the Catholic Schools.
  • It is an opportunity for students to get a first-hand experience of teaching the faith in a public setting.
  • Working under the supervision of experienced Catholic teachers and the parish pastoral staff, the students learn ways of engaging young people and teaching them about the faith.
  • The theology students see the role of faith-filled and enthusiastic Catholic teachers in handing on the faith, reassuring them that they are not alone in catechesis.
  • The involvement of theology students assist them in better understanding the world of young people (i.e. their struggles, stresses, and dreams) and, in turn, assisting the students to develop methods for bringing the Gospel message into the world of young people.
  • Theology students develop methods of interacting with various age groups of young people, sharing faith with them, and working co-responsibly with others in ministry.
  • Theology students will learn the importance of integrating the spirit of the New Evangelization in their ministry.
