New Program in Parish Nursing a Great Success
For an eight day period in July, twenty-two nurses from various faith traditions gathered on the beautiful north shore of Lake Erie for an experience of learning, prayer, sharing, and laughter.
As participants in ICF’s new Foundations in Parish Nursing program held at Holy Family Retreat House in Oxley, nurses from across Canada received instruction on the practice of parish nursing and the promoting of health and wellness in the parish community from a superb roster of dedicated professionals including Fr. Mark Miller CssR, a well known bioethicist and public speaker.
In addition to the summer residency, the program includes self-directed studies and ongoing professional development. It also meets the criteria of the Canadian Association for Parish Nursing Ministry (CAPNM) Standards of Practice and Core Competencies.
ICF is very happy with the tremendous response to its new program, the only one of its kind in Canada to be offered by a Catholic organization. Generous support from the St. Joseph’s Health Care Society was instrumental in getting the program off the ground.
Plans are underway for the next summer residency session July 7-14, 2011.
