Permanent Diaconate Program

Two components of the Permanent Diaconate Program will be offered in 2013-2014:

  • Year I – Theological Foundations
  • Year III – Foundations for Ministry
Permanent Diaconate Year I: Year I will examine Theological Foundations. The Year I Program will take place one weekend per month from September 2013 to June 2014. The program will run concurrently with the Year III Program’s dates which are listed below.

Permanent Diaconate Year III: Year III will examine Foundations for Ministry including such topics as Homiletics, Liturgical Ministry, The Deacon and Canon Law, Bioethics, Reconciliation Service, the Psalms and Music, and Canon Law and Marriage.

Weekend Dates for Year I and Year III: 

  • 2013: September 22 - 22; October 25 - 27; November 22 - 24; December 13 - 15
  • 2014: January 17 - 19; February 21 - 23; March 21 - 23; April 11 - 13; May 9 - 11; June 13 - 15

 

Three components of the Permanent Diaconate Program will be offered in 2014-2015:
  • The Aspirant Year
  • Year II – Sacred Scripture, The Church and Grace and Speechworks 
  • Year IV – Pastoral Ministry
The Aspirant Year: The Aspirant Year will consist of three days of Discernment to be held on a Saturday in September, 2014; a Saturday in January, 2015;  and a Saturday in June, 2015.                                          
 
Topics to be covered: 
  • Looking at the Tools which will be used for Discernment 
  • Discernment with the Church, spouse and family. 
  • Setting goals and objectives for the Permanent Diaconate Program
Permanent Diaconate Year II: Year II will examine Sacred Scripture, The Church and Grace and develop Presentation Skills. The Year II Program will take place one weekend per month from September 2008 to June 2009. The program will run concurrently with the Year IV Program’s dates which are listed below.

Permanent Diaconate Year IV: Year IV will examine all aspects of Parish Ministry including such topics as Homiletics, Liturgical Ministry, The Deacon and Canon Law, Bioethics, Reconciliation Service, the Psalms and Music, and Canon Law and Marriage.

Instructors: Diocesan clergy, Chancery personnel, St. Peter’s Seminary faculty and guest presenters.
