Days of Reflection in the Diocese of London

Spiritual Renewal

OVERVIEW:  Part I

The plan for the spiritual renewal of the ministerial leadership of the Diocese of London encompasses three distinct yet interconnected stages or phases.  While separate, they comprise, nevertheless, an integrated whole, and the spiritual renewal process would be incomplete and lessened without each stage being accomplished or fulfilled.  These three phases are:  disposition, retreat and appropriation.

The disposition phase may be understood as a period of getting ready, of opening and disposing ourselves individually and collectively to the work of the Spirit in leading us to a deeper relationship with the Lord.  This period begins in May 2009 and will last until the first months of 2010.  It will be a time of prayer and reflection, making ready for the retreat experience to come in 2010.

The retreat phase is, as the name plainly suggests, the period during which all in ministry will be invited to undertake a significant retreat experience.  This phase, lasting throughout 2010, hopefully, will be an opportunity for all to encounter the Lord personally, to renew and strengthen that primal relationship, to rediscover the original grace given in the call to ministry, and to be nurtured for mission to our communities and the world around us.

The third and last phase is an ongoing one wherein we appropriate not only individually but also collectively our spiritual experience and translate it into outreach and service and the fostering of a spirituality of communion not only among ourselves but also the wider community of which we are a part.

OVERVIEW:  Part II

NOTE # 1:  It is hoped that you will be able to set aside a full day each month for prayer and reflection.  However, a shortened session is provided to accommodate your need.  Please select the Facilitator's Notes that are appropriate to your time commitment.

NOTE # 2:  The Facilitator's Notes for the first reflection day are purposely very directive and comprehensive.  Subsequent Facilitator's Notes will be simplified.  The Notes have been prepared to assist those with minimal facilitation experience.

NOTE # 3:  Text in BOLD is intended to be spoken by the facilitator.  With sufficient preparation the facilitator may be comfortable using his or her own words.  Text in italics is process detail for the facilitator.

NOTE # 4:  The Guidelines for Faith Sharing will be included in each process.  The facilitator should decide whether or not the guidelines should be reviewed each time the group gathers.

Gratitude is offered to the writing team:  Mrs. Deborah Craven, Ms. Denise Dalton, Fr. Gary Ducharme, Ms. Helen Janisse, Sr. Doreen Kraemer CSJ, Sr. Kathleen Lichti CSJ, Sr. Loretta Manzara and Deacon John Vallely.
