THE A.P. MAHONEY LIBRARY

APPLICATION FOR GUEST BORROWER PRIVILEGES

Eligibility
Individuals who are engaged in legitimate research or instructional, professional, or administrative activities and must have access to specialized collections for professional or job-related purposes on a short term basis are eligible to apply.

UWO/St. Peter's Seminary Alumni automatically have borrowing privileges.  To borrow materials either a recent Western student card or Western alumni card is necessary.  Simply present either card, and one other piece of photo ID, at the Service Desk and library staff will set up a borrower record immediately.  Contact the Department of Alumni Relations and Development to request an alumni card:  Phone: 519-661-2199 or 1-800-258-6898. (www.alumni.uwo.ca).

Privileges
Guest borrowers are entitled to the services provided by the libraries of Brescia University College, Huron University College, King's University College, and St. Peter's Seminary.  These privileges exclude Interlibrary Loan privileges, the borrowing of Reserve materials, recalling items on loan, and full access to the library network of databases and indexes.  Additional restrictions may be imposed to protect the borrowing needs of the university community.

Conditions of Use

  • The borrower card is for the sole use of the individual named on it and it not transferable.
  • Each borrower is responsible for all materials signed out on his or her card.
  • Lost materials and materials not returned by the due date are subject to overdue or recall fines; materials returned in damaged condition are subject to overdue or recall fines, replacement, processing or rebinding fees.
  • Material borrowed is subject to recall.
  • The non-receipt of the library courtesy notices does not relieve the borrower from fines or sanctions.
  • On expiry, the borrower must reapply for borrowing privileges, following the process outlined above.  Renewal of privileges is not automatic.

Reason(s) for Requesting Borrowing Privileges:
A formal letter is required with this application.  This letter should include the following points:

  • nature of your research and affiliation
  • subject area and type of material to be used
  • time period requested for borrowing privileges
