Fines Threshold:
- Suspension of library borrowing privileges occurs when a borrower accumulates more than $5.00 in fines.
- Borrowers may pay down their overdue fines to the $5.00 threshold or below to reinstate their borrowing privileges.
- The maximum overdue fine for any one A.P. Mahoney Library item is $25.00 ($50.00).
- Return of materials cancels replacement costs leaving the daily overdue fine to be paid.
Users:
The A.P. Mahoney Library is open to the general public. A valid University identification card or Guest Borrower card is required to borrow materials.
Individuals without a valid borrower card may use most materials in the library and may consult library staff for assistance in accessing collections and most services.
Regular Loans:
The regular loan period for most circulating material for each user category is defined at the top of this page. All materials on regular loan are subject to recall.
Short Loans:
The loan periods for these materials range from two hours to seven days depending upon demand.
Extended Loans:
In certain cases, users with full borrowing privileges may be granted selected materials for an extended period. All materials on extended loan are subject to recall.
Recalled Loans:
Any item on regular or extended loan may be recalled. Borrowers with full borrowing privileges may recall such items. The original borrower is assured of at least seven days use of the requested item before it must be returned. Recalls are placed by clicking on the Request Item button in the Library Catalogue, or in person at the library Service Desk.
Renewal of Loans:
Regular or extended loan items may be renewed up to THREE times* by the due date unless they have been recalled or reserved for another patron, or the user requesting the renewals is suspended because of overdue items or fines. Items that have been assigned a short loan status are not renewable. For self renewal see My Library Account on the A.P. Mahoney Library web site. Material may also be renewed when it is brought to the library Service Desk, or to any Western Libraries or Affiliate University College library service desk.
*Guest and Direct Borrowers are eligible for 1 renewal only.
Return Procedures:
Regular loan and Recalled material can be returned to any of the Western Libraries or the Affiliate University College Libraries (Brescia, Huron, King's) & St. Peter's Seminary.
NOTE: Short loan material must be returned to its home library by the date specified.
Non-Circulating Material:
There are materials in the library that do not circulate. Some non-circulating materials may be circulated for a limited period at the discretion of the library staff. These materials will be subject to overdue fines as noted elsewhere.
For more detail on Policies and Procedures see the Access Code for Western Libraries.
