Copyright Guide

Users and creators of copyrighted works are required to understand their rights and responsibilities under the Copyright Act.  The following links provide detailed information on the use of copyrighted works, the rights of creators of copyrighted works, and information specific to the use of copyrighted material at the A.P. Mahoney Library.

User's Rights

Copying and Copyright: a Guide for Students, Professors and Staff at Western University provides guidance for A.P. Mahoney Library and Western users regarding copyrighted works, including permissible copying under the Copyright Act, vendor licenses and the blanket Western University - Access Copyright agreement.

Use of Films in the Classroom provides information about educational public performance rights and the use of documentary or feature films in Seminary classrooms.

Key CARL documents provides a record of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) position and activities on behalf of academic and research libraries regarding Canadian copyright legislation and provides links to critical resources.

Authors' Rights

Copyright and Authors Rights provides links for creators of copyrighted works that address copyright management and author rights, especially in the context of publishing journal articles.  It also includes information about retaining copyright in works created through employment.

Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT): Intellectual Property outlines the Association's position on copyright issues, advocating for the rights of academic staff as both creators and users of intellectual property.
